TEAM GRYPHON FC (0) 0 - 4 (2) SHERBORNE WEST END FC

TEAM - HILL, DARREN MASON, RYAN, HAMBLIN, RANDALL, PEIRSON, PERRETT, BREWER, PLOWMAN, MABEY, DOMINIC MASON - Subs - COOPER, DAISH

Sunday 16 November 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

at the Alex Playing Fields, Hazelbury Bryan

HAZELBURY BRYAN FC (1) 1 - 5 (3) TEAM GRYPHON FC

Perrett x 2, Plowman, Rowe, Dominic Mason

TEAM - HILL, DARREN MASON, ROWE, HAMBLIN, DAISH, DOMINIC MASON, RANDALL, WISDOM, MABEY, PERRETT, PLOWMAN

Subs - COOPER, BREWER, PEIRSON

A feisty first half saw both teams competing hard for supremacy. Team Gryphon took first blood on the break with an accurate long through ball neatly slotted home by Brad Perrett. Hazelbury Bryan then had the best of the action using the pace that they had up front to create several opportunities. Some good goalkeeping by man of the match George Hill, kept the visitors in front until a long speculative shot from 25 yards looped in to level the scores at one all. This spurred Team Gryphon into action and from some strong play a free kick led to the away teams second, with Darren Rowe catching the keeper off his line. A third goal came just before half time with a mazy run from Plowman on the left leading to a pulled back low cross being tapped in by Dominic Mason. The second half started with a goal from the effervescing Plowman when he closed down a defender, won the ball and finished in deadly fashion from 12 yards. The game then drifted with the home team striving hard to gain some pride in the fixture. With the introduction of the away teams subs the final goal of the fixture arrived when a Dominic Mason through ball from right back put Tristan Cooper away down the right flank. His shot across the keeper broke fortuitously to Bard Perrett for his second goal of the match. A strong performance from both teams was in the end determined by flashes of additional quality from the visitors but the home team should be praised for their fighting style and had they converted their chances in the first half it may well have ended a tighter result. TGFC Man of the Match - George HILL

Sunday 2 November 2008, Dorset Sunday Junir Cup, Round Two

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 3 - 2 (0) STURMINSTER ROVERS FC

Mabey, Dominic Mason, Hamblin

TEAM - HILL, DARREN MASON, LAMBERT, BARKER, DAISH, HAMBLIN, DOMINIC MASON, MOTTERAM, WISDOM, MABEY, CLEMENTS

Subs - LEWIN, PLOWMAN, PERRETT

Normally at this time of year TGFC travel to Weymouth for the second round of the Dorset Sunday Cup, and normally we come home disappointed, but this year was different, a home fixture, and against an opponent we know something about! Sturminster Rovers, a team we have a good record against but they beat us on the opening day of the league season, so it was time to turn the tables, and progress at the expenses of our league foes. Without a couple of players, TGFC utilised the squad and put out a very good, strong side that was determined to continue its unbeaten run, and take our cup run into a third month and round? TGFC started well, pushing and putting our visitors under pressure, as well as withstanding a serious about of pressure, that Rovers will not be happy about, but keeper George Hill will be, as he was excellent in goal, keeping us in it at times. Rhys Mabey gave us the lead, which was extending in the second half, as Mabey floated a ball across the keeper for Dominic Mason to nod in to make it 2-0. Chris Hamblin made it three from a goalmouth scrabble to see us across the line and into the 3rd round draw, unfortunately Sturminster Rovers were not dead and buried and started their comeback, with only ten minutes left they scored and then scored again with the clock close on 90 minutes. Fortunately the final whistle went and TGFC had won, the manager had told the team he would be happy if we sneaked it by a single goal, deal…signed, sealed and delivered! TGFC have been drawn at home to The Tudor Rose (who beat Hazelbury Bryan) from the Bournemouth Sunday League on Sunday 7 December’08 in the Quarterfinals! TGFC Man of the Match - Rhys MABEY

Sunday 26 October 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 1 - 1 (0) HAZELBURY BRYAN FC - Mabey

TEAM - HILL, LEWIN, ROWE, BARKER, RANDALL, MOTTERAM, HAMBLIN, MABEY, PERRETT, DOMINIC MASON, PLOWMAN

Subs - COOPER, WISDOM, DAISH

A disappointing home draw against Hazelbury Bryan today at Gryphon Park, in the wind and the rain, in difficult conditions though we still should have won by five or six, but credit to our visitors they battled hard, and defended with at least eight players behind the ball whenever our attacking players pushed up into their defensive third, which was for most of the game, and a number of the TGFC players could have won it for us, but after a difficult opening twenty minutes Rhys Mabey gave us the lead, and from that we should have pushed on, but we ended the half with just the one goal to show for all our hard work. The second half was just the same, but we allowed Hazelbury back into the game, and poor finishing topped with some good goalkeeping kept us out, and in the end gave Hazelbury a share of the points! TGFC Man of the Match – Hazelbury Bryan

Sunday 19 October 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

at Horsington, South Cheriton

SOUTH CHERITON UTD (2) 4 - 4 (1) TEAM GRYPHON FC

Dominic Mason, Clements, Perrett, Brewer

TEAM - HILL, DARREN MASON, ROWE, BARKER, RANDALL, HAMBLIN, RYAN, DOMINIC MASON, PERRETT, BREWER, CLEMENTS

Subs - MABEY, WISDOM, MOTTERAM (NU)

TGFC opened the scoring after Dominic Mason's original attempt was saved, but he followed up the re-bound to score, South Cheriton equalised, before TGFC lost midfield Mark Ryan to a knee injury, Chris Hamblin dropped back and helped Team Gryphon take control of the game, not before Cheriton had taken a 2-1 half-time lead though. Early into the second half Mark Clements equalised, then had a great chance to give TGFC the lead as his shot crashed off the crossbar with the keeper beaten, unfortunately from the goal kick South Cheriton broke away and scored, which was doubled within a matter of minutes to give Cheriton two quick goals could have been the end, but Brad Perrett scored and then Mark Brewer made it 4-4 and a share of the points! TGFC Man of the Match - Chris HAMBLIN

Sunday 12 October 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 2 - 6 (3) BLANDFORD TOWN FC - Plowman, Perrett

TEAM - HILL, DARREN MASON, ROWE, MOTTERAM, RANDALL, HAMBLIN, RYAN, BREWER, PERRETT, DOMINIC MASON, PLOWMAN

Subs - CLEMENTS, MABEY

A slow start enabled Blandford to race into a two goal lead, which was further enhanced as TGFC gave away a free-kick on the edge of the box, at 3-0 down the hosts staged a mini fight back, especially when Matt Plowman made it five in two games hitting a thunder bolt to give Team Gryphon hope. Unfortunately that was undone as Blandford scored a fourth midway though the second half, a Brad Perrett header, from a Chris Hamblin cross reduced the score but Blandford scored two within the last few minutes of the match to give them a faltering score line! TGFC Man of the Match – Darren ROWE

Sunday 5 October 2008, Dorset Sunday Junior Cup Round One

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (3) 7 - 0 (0) THE GEORGE INN FC (Weymouth Sunday League, Championship) - Plowman x 4, Perrett x 3

TEAM - HILL, DARREN MASON, ROWE, BARKER, RANDALL, HAMBLIN, RYAN, BREWER, PERRETT, DOMINIC MASON, PLOWMAN

Subs - MOTTERAM, WISDOM

Team Gryphon stormed into the second round of the Dorset Sunday Junior Cup, and a home tie against Sturminster Rovers on Sunday 2 November, beating The George Inn from the Weymouth Sunday League Championship 7-0. TGFC should have been three up before the home side registered its opening goal, but before half-time Brad Perrett had scored a couple and Matt Plowman just the one. The George gave a spirited fight back, but its defence couldn’t handle the pace and attacking fair of TGFC, which should have resulted in Mark Ryan and Dominic Mason each scoring a couple before the break. But by the time 60 minutes had been played both Perrett and Plowman had their hat tricks and as the game drew on, Plowman had his fourth, Darren Rowe had one disallowed and Darren Mason and Mike Motteram should have scored from distance, but a win and a comfortable win is important as TGFC return to league action and Blandford Town who put out Sherborne West End, beaten finalists for the last two seasons! TGFC Man of the Match – Brad PERRETT

Sunday 28 September 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

 at The Terraces, Sherborne

SHERBORNE WEST END FC (2) 6 - 3 (0) TEAM GRYPHON FC - Brewer x 2, Rowe

TEAM - DENNETT, DARREN MASON, BARKER, ROWE, DAISH, MOTTERAM, HAMBLIN, RANDALL, DOMINIC MASON, BREWER, WISDOM - Subs COOPER

After a weeks rest due to Cary Swans participation in the Somerset Challenge Cup, TGFC returned to action against last seasons league winners Sherborne West End, and a ‘Sherborne Derby’ at The Terraces. With the fog slowly lifting across the pitch, the home side raced into a two-goal lead, which they managed to hang onto, despite an extreme amount of attacking pressure from the away side. This pressure was rewarded in the second half as Steve Randall was fouled in the box and up stepped Mark Brewer to send the keeper the wrong way. At 2-1 we had them rattled, even after they gave themselves another two-goal advantage TGFC kept the pressure on as Mark Brewer scored his second latching onto a Matt Wisdom shot that came off the keeper, 3-2. Unfortunately at that point we allowed West End a further two goal cushion, from defensive mistakes and a penalty, but Darren Rowe scored a screamer of a free-kick from 25 yards plus, to restore hope, but Sherborne scored again to give themselves a three goal lead and the three points as they remain unbeaten at the top of the table! TGFC Man of the Match - Steve RANDALL

Sunday 14 September 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 4 - 3 (3) BISHOPS CAUNDLE FC

Plowman, Perrett, Mabey, Dominic Mason

TEAM - PARTRIDGE, DARREN MASON, KELL, ROWE, BARKER, HAMBLIN, TRIM, RANDALL, PERRETT, BREWER, PLOWMAN

Subs - COOPER, MABEY, DOMINIC MASON

Sundays Local derby saw the visitors Bishops Caundle take an early lead after only 4 minutes but Matt Plowman latched onto a though ball from Simon Trim to equalised for the home side, before anymore damage to the score line could be done, unfortunately Bishops Caundle capitalised and took a two goal advantage going into half time, by scoring two quick goals each within the space of a few minutes to take a 3-1 half time lead. But a second half fight back by TGFC, saw the home side take all three points, first of all Brad Perrett started the ball rolling scoring again from another though ball played though the Bishops defence, which he drilled home, then it was Rhys Mabey’s turn to equalise with only 10 minutes to play, his goal came after he collected the ball from a Mark Brewer pass, and powered into our opponents 18 yard box where he smashed home into the near post corner to make it 3-3 and an exciting last ten minutes! Dominic Mason mad it two in two for TGFC as he scored the winner, collecting the ball from a long ball over the Bishops defence, then he rounded the advancing keeper and slotted home with only minutes remaining! TGFC Man of the Match - Marcus PARTRIDGE

Sunday 7 September 2008, Blackmore Vale Football League, Division One

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 1-6 (3) STURMINSTER ROVERS FC - Dominic Mason

TEAM - HASTED, FORD, BARKER, KELL, LEWIN, COOPER, ROWE, MABEY, DOMINIC MASON, PERRETT, RANDALL - Subs - DAISH & PLOWMAN

With 5 players making their league debut for TGFC, renewed hope and belief that with some great summer signings we could push on and progress in our third season as club, and a win was on the cards as Team Gryphon took the lead, Dominic Mason, latched onto a Brad Perrett though ball, rode a rough challenge and smashed the ball past the keeper to give the home side the a 1-0 lead. A period of pressure failed to give TGFC further advantage, as Sturminster Rovers started to take the upper hand, from a corner which wasn't cleared which resulted in the equaliser, and then a further corner gave Rovers the lead, further hardship resulted in Club Captain Tristan Cooper bundling over an advancing forward, thus conceding a penalty on the stoke of half-time which was dully scored. With a mountain to climb TGFC couldn't break down a stubborn Sturminster defence, and on the break conceded a couple more goals to lose at home to Sturminster Rovers for the first time in three years, credit to Rovers they deserved to win, as they took their chances and caught us on the counterattack, but we didnt deserve to lose to this score line? TGFC Man of the Match - Andrew KELL

St Aldhelms Cup, Sunday 31 August 2008 at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 4 - 5 (2) PEN MILL FC - Perrett x2, Rowe, Dominic Mason

TEAM - PARTRIDGE, FORD, ROWE, LAMBERT, DARREN MASON, COOPER, MOTTERAM, HAMBLIN, PERRETT, BREWER, DOMINIC MASON - Subs DASIH, KELL

The final games of the St Aldhelm’s Cup saw Bishops Caundle take the trophy on goal difference as they beat Stalbridge 5-2, to win this pre-season tournament over Pen Mill who just edged out Team Gryphon 5-4, after a spirited fight back from 3-1 down, with Dominic Mason tapping home to give TGFC the lead, before conceding. TGFC then took advantage of some poor defending and goalkeeping to then re-take the lead 4-3, though a brace from Brad Perrett, and one from Darren Rowe, only to be undone by some late goals and some mistakes of our own to lose, and take home the wooden spoon!

St Aldhelms Cup, Tuesday 26 August 2008 at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 1 - 5 (1) BISHOPS CAUNDLE FC - Perrett

TEAM - PARTRIDGE, DARREN MASON, LAMBERT, MOTTERAM, LEWIN, DOMINIC MASON, HAMBLIN, RYAN, MABEY, PERRETT, BREWER - Subs FORD, DAISH, RANDALL, COOPER

The second set of games of the St Aldhelms Cup saw Stalbridge beat Pen Mill 4-2 to move into the driving seat come Sundays final set of fixtures, and TGFC after a great start faded, and gave away a great chance of victory especially after Brad Perrett had given the home side the lead to lose to Bishops Caundle 5-1. The game fell away in a twenty minute period that saw Caundle take control and score four without reply. The first half though TGFC had a number of chances to score and given themselves the lead they deserved, but the ball just wouldn't go in....a win is now important as TGFC could end up with the wooden spoon if we lose to Pen Mill?

St Aldhelms Cup - Tuesday 19 August 2008 at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON FC (1) 2 - 3 (1) STALBRIDGE RES. - Brewer, Daish

TEAM - HAYNES, DARREN MASON, ROWE, MOTTERAM, LEWIN, PERRETT, DOMINIC MASON, BREWER, MABEY, COOPER, DAISH

Subs - RANDALL, SMITH, LAMBERT, PARTRIDGE (GK)

The St Aldhelm’s Cup opening games, paired TGFC with Stalbridge Reserves who play in Division 4 of the Dorset Saturday League, and Bishops Caundle vs. Pen Mill (Pen Mill won 4-1). The game started well with both teams cancelling each other out in midfield, and with each teams goalkeeper being tested only now and again, the goals did come though first of all though, when Stalbridge took the lead after about 30 minutes of deadlock, but Mark Brewer restored the scores when his shot which the keeper helped into the net from just outside the 18 yard box, was deemed as the equalised just before half-time. As the sun started to set across the ‘Gryphon Park’ TGFC took the lead, with Ethan Daish scoring his second in two games, latching on to a mistake from the keeper to score from close range. Unfortunately TGFC couldn’t capitalise and score a third to wrap up the points, Stalbridge were allowed back into the game scoring a equaliser which looked to have gone out of play, we stopped, they didn’t and a goal duly came. The winner was scored when the TGFC defence backed off to allow Stalbridge to score and put themselves level with Pen Mill on points but behind on goal difference. The game though saw Darren Mason, Steve Randall & Ross Lambert all make their debuts for TGFC.

Pre-Season Friendly - Sunday 10 August 2008 at Tinneys Lane, Sherborne

PLUME SAMBA FC (7) 7 - 3 (2) TEAM GRYPHON FC - Plowman, Daish, own goal x 1

TEAM - JOHN HAYNES, FORD, TRISTAN COOPER, JAMIE HAYNES, NOYCE, MASON, HAMBLIN, MOTTERAM, DAISH, BREWER, PLOWMAN

Subs - TOM COOPER, PERRETT & HOLE (GK)

TGFC started its second friendly in 24hrs played up the Tinneys Lane 'slope' a first half that proved to be our downfall! With the team again lacking any central defenders, we started the fixture against Division Two new boys ‘Plume Samba’ very slowly, which our hosts took full advantage of, by taking a very early lead. Continued poor play led to two more goals before TGFC replied with Matthew Plowman scoring after some neat interplay. Samba pushed on and scored again before Team Gryphon replied with a second, this time scored by Ethan Daish. The trend continued with Samba notching two more goals before half time. The second half saw TGFC up its work rate in an attempt to retain some pride by winning the second half. This was achieved by an early own goal; TGFC dominated the second half but couldn’t convert the various opportunities they created. The Samba keeper probably claiming the man of the match with several excellent saves maintaining his concentration right to the last making two good saves at the death. A good run out for both teams, Team Gryphon will have learnt much more about what needs to be done for the forthcoming season. Where Samba can be confident of a good season with their first half performance being full of goals and the second half full of grit in defence?

Pre-Season Friendly - Saturday 9 August 2008

at Bishops Caundle Recreational Ground

BISHOPS CAUNDLE RES. (3) 3 - 1 (0) TEAM GRYPHON FC - Plowman

TEAM - FORD, DAISH, LEWIN, MOTTERAM, JAMIE HAYNES, PERRETT, TOM COOPER, CLEMENTS, MABEY, BREWER, PLOWMAN

Subs - TRISTAN COOPER, WISDOM, HAMBLIN, HOLE (GK) & GUSMAN

Back at the ground where we played our last competitive game of the 2007-08 season, but back against a very different Bishops Caundle, this time the Saturday Reserves side from Dorset Division Four. Also making an appearance was the rain, very different from the last time, which was boiling hot sun! Bishops started well, but a ‘brand new’ TGFC held them at bay, and started to push on for an opener itself! It wasn’t to come as we conceded two goals, one from a corner which we should have done better with and the second from a one-on-one when goalkeeper Jordan Ford found himself stranded as the team had pushed up, hoping to score from a corner. The third Caundle goal was the best of a bad bunch. The second half was much better, as we started to handle Bishops long ball game, with some astute defending, this from a team missing its entire back four from last season. But we held on, and scored a consolation goal, from Matt Plowman, and could have reduced the score further if our attacking play had been a bit more fruitful?

Sunday 30 November 2008, Dorset County Youth League, Division Two

TEAM GRYPHON U18’s  (0) 3 - 1 (0) WAREHAM RANGERS YOUTH

Challis, Torrance, Tully

TEAM - PARTRIDGE, KINDER, MASON, SENIOR, HOLE, TORRANCE, TULLY, JOHN, DAWKINS, BENNETT, CHALLIS - Subs DRINKWATER, HAYNES

Sunday 23 November 2008, Dorset County Youth League, Division Two

at Parley Sports & Social Club

PARLEY SPORTS (0) 3 – 4 (2) TEAM GRYPHON U18’s - Challis x 2, Mafu, Tully

TEAM - ROBERTS, MASON, GUSMAN, SENIOR, TORRANCE, TULLY, MAFU, JOHN, DAWKINS, HAYNES, CHALLIS - Subs KINDER. HOLE (NU)

Finally TGFC U18’s showed the potential that has been lucking under the surface in just about every game I have watched the U18’s play. They dominated the league leaders for most of the first half and by hitting them from the off, in fact after only 29 seconds (Chay Tully scored at the near post, from our first attack) they put an over confident Parley Sports on the back foot and allowed themselves to dictate play. Which was rewarded with a second midway though the first half, this time form John Challis. The second half start was just as good as the first as Alvin Mafu scored to make it three and dream land. But unfortunately a few errors from corners allowed our hosts back into the game, and with just under 10 minutes to go, Parley scored what they thought was the winner, it looked like Poole Borough all over again? The goal was disallowed, and with the clock ticking down, Challis beat two defenders to score and condemn Parley to their first league defeat of the season!

League leaders Parley Sports tasted defeat for the first time when they lost by the odd goal in seven against their visitors from Team Gryphon, their goals coming from Jack Pine, Dan Merritt and Craig Molyneaux. On target for Team Gryphon was John Challis with two and one each for Chay Tully and Alvin Mafu. (Dorset FA, Full-time results website 24.11.08)

Sunday 2 November 2008, Dorset County Youth Cup, Round Two

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON U18's (0) 0 - 7 (4) BOURNEMOUTH POPPIES COLTS FC

TEAM - ROBERTS, HOLE, GUSMAN, SENIOR, KINDER, TORRANCE, MAFU, MASON, KELL, TULLY, HAYNES - Subs BRAY, BARNETT, PARTRIDGE

TGFC U18’s fray into the Dorset Youth Cup, ended in disappointment, as we suffered defeat again to Bournemouth Poppies who had beaten us earlier in the season at ease. A win would have lifted the squad, put it wasn’t to be as the Poppies found their way though our team with ease to record four first half goals, with reply although Chay Tully and Alvin Mafu had a couple of early attempts, but it just wasn’t going to be our day? The second half was much better, as it took Bournemouth a while to score their firth goal, as a stubborn more determined TGFC took to the field in the second half, and Poppies final two goals came at the end, after TGFC had finally started to fight for pride, but it was to little to late!

Sunday 26 October 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two

 at the Municipal Park, Christchurch

STOURVALE FC (1) 3 - 1 (0) TEAM GRYPHON U18's  - Tully

TEAM - PARTRIDGE, TORRANCE, SENIOR, KELL, KINDER, HAYNES, MAFU, MASON, TULLY, DRINKWATER, BARNETT - Subs GUSMAN

A disappointing away defeat today at Christchurch, which should have moved us up the table, but the win for Stourvale, moved them up above us instead, and well done to them. TGFC U18’s don’t seem to have adapted to the long away days, which Dorset U18’s football brings, as we have failed to win on the road in all three of our away matches, plus the side was missing at least six, if not seven possible options, so we need to start showing both commitment on and off the field as well start showing some heart and fight if this team is going to start collecting wins and the much needed points that go with it!

Sunday 19 October 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON U18's (3) 8 - 1 (0) PARKSTONE HEIGHTS FC

Tully x 3, John x 2, Haynes, Mafu, Bray

TEAM - ROBERTS, TORRANCE, SENIOR, KELL, HOLE, HAYNES, JOHN, MASON, TULLY, BRAY, S.WALLBRIDGE - Subs DRINKWATER, MAFU, KINDER

The U18’s knew this was a must win game, as they had experienced a mixed bad of emotions over the last few games, namely letting a lead slide away at Poole and holding Parley Sports for the best part of 70 minutes in their last outing, now it was time to push on and show the teams around them that we are no push over. Chay Tully bagged a hat trick, with captain Matt John a couple either side of one each for Rory Bray and Alvin Mafu, the best was the fourth goal, Jamie Haynes curling the ball in from distance with his left foot!

Sunday 5 October 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON U18's (0) 0 - 1 (0) PARLEY SPORTS YOUTH FC

TEAM - ROBERTS, TORRANCE, SENIOR, CHALLIS, KINDER, HAYNES, DAWKINS, MASON, TULLY, MAFU, S.WALLBRIDGE

Subs - HOLE, BRAY, DRINKWATER (NU)

The U18’s entertained the Division Two leaders this afternoon at ‘The Park’ and gave them the fright of their lives as they held them for over 75 minutes before falling to a goal that had desperation written all over it. But to be fair to the visitors they had TGFC on the back foot for much of the match and should have won by more, but more importantly TGFC could have sneaked it, if only the had, had a better day in front of goal, as Steve Walbridge and Alvin Mafu both had good chances to seal all three points? If TGFC U18’s continue to play like this then the goals and the points will come, and hopefully movement in the league table will follow! Well done today from ALL the TGFC Management

Sunday 28 September 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two at Turlin Moor Recreational Ground, Hamworthy

POOLE BOROUGH (1) 5 - 2 (2) TEAM GRYPHON U18's - Challis, Mafu

TEAM - ROBERTS, MASON, KELL, SENIOR, KINDER, HAYNES, DAWKINS, JOHN, TULLY, CHALLIS, MAFU - Subs S.WALLBRIDGE, TORRANCE, HELYAR

TGFC U18’s travelled to Turlin Moor and a league match against Poole Borough, and within 10 minutes TGFC had raced into a two-goal lead, first of all Jamie Haynes thread a brilliant left foot pass which evaded the Poole defence for Johnny Challis to score his fifth goal of the season, minutes later it got even better as Alvin Mafu beat the keeper to make it two for the away side! Team Gryphon allowed Poole a break as they reduced the scores as the first half came to a close. But unfortunately Poole Borough regrouped and staged a remarkable comeback to score four goals without reply to win the match, in the second half when it looked like it would be how many they would lose by, not win by after 10 minutes!

Sunday 21 September 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON U18's (0) 1 - 4 (1) BLANDFORD YOUTH KINGS - Dawkins

TEAM - PARTRIDGE, TORRANCE, MASON, SENIOR, KINDER, HAYNES, JOHN, DAWKINS, TULLY, CHALLIS, HELYAR - Subs S.WALLBRIDGE, MAFU, HOLE

A local fixture for Team Gryphon, as Blandford Youth Kings arrived at ‘The Gryphon Park’ and participated in an evenly fought first half, although they took the lead, TGFC had much the better half, even having a goal disallowed. Which would unfortunately lead to TGFC’s undoing as Blandford upped their game and won the fixture at a canter! Not before Jack Dawkins had levelled the scores though, but TGFC couldn’t capitalise, as Blandford restored its lead minutes later.

Sunday 14 September 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two at the Canford Park Arena, Bournemouth

BOURNEMOUTH POPPIES COLTS (8) 10 - 2 (1) TEAM GRYPHON U18's

Gusman, Torrance

TEAM - HOLE, DRINKWATER, KINDER, MASON, TORRANCE, TULLY, DAWKINS, PARTRIDGE, GUSMAN, S.WALLBRIDGE, HAYNES - Subs MAFU

TGFC U18’s started this fixture very slowly and allowed last seasons Division Two champions to much time and respect, in fact we didn’t seem to complete at all in the first half, although Terence Gusman scored his first for the club but we had a mountain to climb if we wonted to get back in the game. Things got a lot better in the second half, with Chris Torrance scoring early in the half, and TGFC reducing the Poppies to only a couple more goals, and putting a much better display and effort all round.

Sunday 7 September 2008, Dorset County Youth Football League, Division Two at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON U18's (5) 9-3 (2) TWYNHAM RANGERS U18's

John x4, Challis x3, Haynes, Helyar

TEAM - TULLY, MASON, SENIOR, KELL, KINDER, DAWKINS, CHALLIS, JOHN, HAYNES, TORRANCE, HELYAR - Subs GUSMAN & PARTRIDGE

First league game for TGFC U18's, first league win, job done! In a highly charged game, TGFC took the lead early on and used it as a spring board to go on and record their first victory, as Challis followed up his opener with a hat trick, beaten only by Matt John who claimed four. The visitors from Christchurch kept going, reducing the score line, but were never given the chance to get back in the game, which was ruined by three red cards in the closing stages, as tempers boiled over.

Pre-Season Friendly, Sunday 31 August 2008

at the Gryphon Park Football Ground

TEAM GRYPHON U18's (1) 1 - 5 (1) BIRCHFIELD YOUTH - Challis

TEAM - TULLY, R.MASON, TORRANCE, SENIOR, HAYNES, DASIH, DAWKINS, CHALLIS, ATKINSON, D.MASON, HELYAR

Subs - A.WALLBRIDGE, GUSMAN, KELL, HOLE

After the heroic second half display away at Gillingham, TGFC continued on the same vein, pushing and frustrating the visitors to Gryphon Park for the U18's final friendly before the action gets underway for real and Twynham Rangers next weekend, but first Birchfield Youth, Yeovil & District Youth League winners last season, a formidable challenge very much in the same vein as Wincanton and Gillingham before them? The players fought well with heart and soul and restricted the away side to pot shots, and TGFC even took the lead with Challis scoring what turned out to be only a consolation goal, as TGFC conceded five to lose, but hope and promise was their for all to see come the league season?

Pre-Season Friendly, Thursday 28 August 2008 at Hardings Lane Gillingham

GILLINGHAM TOWN (6) 8 - 1 (1) TEAM GRYPHON U18's - S.Wallbridge

TEAM - HOLE, MASON, KELL, SENIOR, KINDER, HAYNES, DAWKINS, TORRANCE, PARTRIDGE, GUSMAN, HELYAR

Under the lights at Hardings Lane, Gillingham TGFC were undone in the space of 30 seconds, as the Gillingham forward was given to much time on the ball, so from the off TGFC were put under constant pressure for the entire first half, Team Gryphon conceded 6 first half goals, some a mixture of mistakes, a few some well taken goals and other a bit of luck. But Gillingham as before with Wincanton were very much the more experienced team, but TGFC needed to step up and start to push themselves and show a little bit of belief, and that is exactly what happen....Steve Wallbridge with his first for the club and the teams first goal gave us hope and the second half display, which TGFC quieten the two most influence Town players and reduced the home side to pot shots, as TGFC put on a display which they all should be very proud of, and one which should give them a pick up as they head into Sundays friendly at home to Birchfield (Kick Off 3.00pm).

TGFC’s opening game as an U18’s team ended in defeat, but not in disappointment as the 10-0 score line might suggests? With only six of the starting 11 having played together as Compton Rovers last season the remaining players needed to gel and become a team? And the opening 20 minutes suggests that this isn’t far away as TGFC held the visitors from Division One, who gained promotion last season. Wincanton showed as the game progressed that that extra years experience could be vital as TGFC head into the new season, 3-0 down at half-time, changes were made to the team, coupled with a few injures, experience and knowledge told in the end as Wincanton enjoyed a confidence boasting win, but the players did well, and shouldn’t be too dishearten as they head to Gillingham next week for a friendly (28th August, Kick off 7.30pm at Harding’s Lane, Gillingham)
